NEPAD Rivers State Opens Youth Desk
NEPAD Rivers State happily announces the grand opening of the NEPAD Rivers State Youth Desk! This is a new initiative of NEPAD Rivers State that is totally committed to the development of youth in Rivers State.

We wish to announce the upcoming inauguration of the NEPAD Youth Club, Rivers State. The Youth Club is being formed to achieve the following objectives, amongst others:

  • To provide a common platform where youths can come together with a common objective of working towards community development;
  • To promote friendship and natural understanding among members of the club;
  • To promote cultural, Sports, religious and other youth activities;
  • To promote and activate the sense of social responsibility amongst the youths;
  • To enter into synergy and collaboration with Agencies, Ministries, Authorities, Local/International firms, Persons and Committees that work inline with the club's objectives; and
  • To organise cultural shows, Stage drama, musical concert awareness campaign in-line with the MDGs.
The date for the inauguration of the Rivers State NEPAD Youth Club will be announced soon.

January 25 2011/ NEPAD Rivers State Successfully Hosts "Register 2 Vote" Street Campaign: The Youth Desk of NEPAD Rivers State successfully organized a massive campaign in Port Harcourt to encourage people of the State to ensure they register for the upcoming general elections. Rivers State Children's Parliament Attend NEPAD Coordinators' National Conference: Members of the Rivers State chapter of the National Children's Parliament were present at the NEPAD Coordinators' National Conference & Stakeholders' Forum, a two-day programme which held at Atlantic Hall, Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt. ICT & U, an initiative of NEPAD Rivers State.

NEPAD Rivers State Presents: "ICT & U"

NEPAD Rivers State, in partnership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Internet Society (Nigerian Chapter), is organizing ICT seminars and workshops, tagged “ICT and U”, for primary and secondary schools across the State, especially in areas where there is little or no exposure to ICT. The project officially kicked off on Wednesday the 5th of May 2010, at Holy Rosary College, Port Harcourt.

Since then, other schools have been visited, including Baptist High School, Moore House Street, Port Harcourt; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borikiri, Port Harcourt; Enitonna High School, Port Harcourt; Community Secondary School, Amadi-ama; and Methodist Girls' High School, Harbour Road, Port Harcourt. NEPAD Rivers State Keys In on Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI): On the 23rd of April 2010, at 11:00am, Mr. Frederick A. Dagogo represented the Special Assistant to the Governor and State Coordinator on NEPAD, Dr Tex Wariboko, at the Rivers State Youth Leadership Initiative stakeholders meeting (YLI) which took place at the Attorney General’s conference chambers Ministry of Justice Rivers State Secretariat.

Presiding over the meeting was Pamela D. Moore, lead consultant Pamela D. Moore and Associate (PDM) USA. The welcome remark was taken by the Permanent Secretary Youth Development Rivers State Government Mr. Dan Ibubeleye who also represented the Commissioner Youth Development Rivers State. Pamela D. Moore presented to the board a comprehensive program initiative which she called YLI COHORT 1. She further explained how the program intends to instill sense of hope and dignity in Rivers State youths.

NEPAD Rivers State Participates in Facilitation of Youth Leadership Workshop: The Rivers State Office of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) recently participated in the facilitation of a one-week-long Youth Leadership Workshop, which was organized by the Rivers State Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI). YLI is a brainchild of the Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development, in conjunction with two non-governmental organizations: the Development and Leadership Institute (DLI), and Pamela D. NEPAD Rivers State Youth Desk Visits Orphanage in Port Harcourt: Representatives of the Youth Desk of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), Rivers State, paid a visit to Port Harcourt Children's Home, an orphanage in Borikiri, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday the 15th of June, 2010. During the visit, the team met with the management and children of the orphanage, spent time with them and donated provisions for the children.

It would be interesting to note that this visit took place on the day before the International Day of the African Child, which comes up on the 16th of June, 2010.
