May 25 2012 | Africa Day: Africa Day is the annual commemoration on May 25 of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). On this day, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 1991, the OAU established the African Economic Community, and in 2002 the OAU established its own successor, the African Union. However, the name and date of Africa Day has been retained as a celebration of African unity. This year's theme of Africa Day is "Africa and the Diaspora."

May 21 2012 | US to Invest US$3bn in African Agriculture - Obama: Over 45 companies have committed to a multi-billion dollar investment in Africa's agricultural sector as part of the G8's New Alliance for Food and Nutrition Security initiative, US President Barack Obama announced. US$3bn will be invested, as part of an initiative developed in collaboration with Grow Africa, an innovative partnership led by the World Economic Forum, the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), Allafrica.com reports. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says internal party democracy is strategic to good governance. ​ Governor Chibuike Amaechi made this assertion when the former Governor of old Gongola State, and aspirant to the office of National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt. ​Governor Amaechi who was represented by his deputy, Engr. May 14 2012 | NEPAD Rivers State Organizes ICT Workshop at Okrika Grammar School: The NEPAD Rivers State Office successfully organized a sensitization workshop on Information & Communications Technology (ICT). The workshop was organized for the junior students of Okrika Grammar School, in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State. The workshop was the tenth of a series of seminars tagged "ICT & U", which was designed to improve ICT awareness among students of primary and secondary schools across the State. Read more...
